Trekking in unspoilt nature The Val Caronella, located inside the Park of the Orobie Valtellinesi, offers excursion itineraries suitable for all and amazing views of the Mid-Valtellina. Once you have reached the village of San Giacomo and crossed the bridge, continue in the direction of Carona, climbing up the Orobic slope. The Val Caronella can also be reached by descending from Aprica towards Sondrio, turning towards the Val Belviso and continuing towards Carona. When you reach the village, the former parish church of San Omobono deserves a visit, a building of medieval origin that conserves interesting frescos. The toponyms of this first stretch of valley - La Rasiga and Valle dei Mulini [Valley of Mills] - offer evidence of man’s ancient presence and the daily activities of former times. Proceeding on foot, crossing the large meadows of Baite Involt and Ronco, you reach the log cabins of Prà Gianni and Prà della Valle. From here it is possible to observe the waterfalls fed by the Torrente Caronella (1,518 m), a destination for ice-climbing enthusiasts. After a route walking among glacial erratics, the road gives way to a path that winds its way through a typically alpine landscape, with the stately peaks of the Orobie looming above.
