The tower of the ancient castle of Teglio
The tower, the symbol of Teglio, is what remains of the medieval castle, the Castrum Tilii, built on the Roman ruins of a previous foundation. Immersed in greenery and sited on a hill, it is a splendid panoramic point. The popular name “Torre de li Beli Miri” in fact derives from the spectacular view that is enjoyed from the balcony at the top, where the gaze can stretch as far as around 60 kilometres. For centuries the tower has been the fulcrum of the Valley’s defence system, together with the Castrum Vetus below, today’s Castelvetro, and the towers of the Orobic slope. The nearby church of Santo Stefano, once the oratorio of the military garrison, is also part of the ancient Castrum Tilii complex.
