A stupendous ballroom
Architecturally Palazzo Cattani Morelli has a sober external appearance. The noble plasterwork façade is characterised by a stone portal and by sophisticated 18th-century window grilles, which contrast with the rich decorative apparatus of the interiors. The heart of the Palazzo is, in fact, the marvellous Ballroom. Arranged over two storeys, with a marble floor, it is frescoed with rich trompe l’oeil quadraturas in Rococo style and floral motifs. A marble fireplace with large mirror, cornices and gilded mirrors and an imposing Murano green glass chandelier light up the Ballroom with reflections. The internal environments are further embellished by three typical Valtellina stüe. A large garden, with tall trees and blooming flowerbeds, opens up on the opposite side of the road and is accessible from the building thanks to an underground passageway. Palazzo Cattani Morelli is still private property today and is only open to the public on the days of the FAI [Italian Environment Fund] or on the occasion of events and shows.
